Hi today I made a few changes to my wiser 2 project file (added 2 schedules) and downloaded, now it seems to have a few issues.

It wont seem to boot correctly.

After the project update and reboot the only lights that are on at the front of the unit are the power light (solid Green) and the MRA light (solid Yellow).

The only way i have been able to get it it boot is to remove the power hold the reset button in on the bottom of the unit and apply power again until all the lights flash red then remove and reconnect power again.

But now the wiser UI is extremely slow, when a menu button is pressed it takes a good second or 2 to change pages or locations.

I have also tried to re downloaded the firmware as well, the current version is 1_31_463 but when the unit rebooted it got stuck again.

Is my unit on the way out already ? Or is this another issue?

Should I try to reset it back to factory defaults?

assume that it not being listed as optional in the protocol, makes it mandatory?
d. The Drop Tamper message (C-bus reference 5.5.2.5) to the panel is not supported. (as above)
e. The Raise Alarm message (C-bus reference 5.5.2.6) to the panel is not supported.(as above)

2. I have seen a few incidences of the D16 (or MiniCentral as I?m not sure what handles what) refusing to accept keypad key press commands (C-Bus reference 5.5.2.7). Other aspects appear to still work and if I manipulate the panel through its own keypad I see outbound messages ok. The only way I have been able to fix the issue is to fully power cycle the panel (AC & battery).

3. The panel does not report zone status change messages when disarmed. Is there a reason for this as I notice the hardwired keypad shows this information accurately? The problem is a user cannot see the true state of all zones before arming the panel, or even after it is armed unless the zone subsequently changes state. The only way to solve this is to constantly poll the panel with Status 1 & 2 requests (C-Bus reference 5.5.2.1 & 5.5.2.1) and process the replies which do carry the correct status. This solution is very messy, and against all C-Bus rules of ?thou shall not poll?. It also carries a time penalty as it takes time for the request and reply to be processed by the panel leading to a delayed user experience when arming. What I am hoping you can do is just send the Zone status messages when the panel is disarmed also. I am aware however that there is possibly a concern about the amount of C-Bus traffic that may create, and I do understand that. But it is no worse than a C-Bus PIR being used as an occupancy sensor and reporting movement.

4. Can you tell me what the emulate keypad (C-Bus reference 5.5.2.7) inter key timeout value is? I have noticed if I am slow to type it seems to timeout and I do not get the desired operation (e.g. enter pin for disarm) It looks like the value is about 2 seconds, which is quite short when the messages are coming from a considerable distance, i.e. the message can be originated from an iPhone connected to the internet via 3g anywhere in the world, and >2 seconds between keystroke messages is quite possible.

5. Can you confirm the MiniCentral is also operational on the Ness M1? If this is the case I would like to test it, and promote it, as there are lots of sites that lie somewhere between a Concept or Challenger type system and a D16, that would fit perfectly into a panel like the M1.

NESS Reply

I have had some feedback from our Engineers as attached..

1a. The miniCentral does NOT support Zone Open and Zone Short. It does however support Zone Unsealed. The communication between the panel and miniCentral handles Zone Unsealed and Zone Sealed to identify the status of the zone.

1b. The MiniCentral does handle Zone Tampers. From what I can see it handles CBus tampers, Elk zone tampers and D8/D16 tampers.

1c. The MiniCentral sees the the CBus raise tamper but it is not being passed to the panels.

1d. The MiniCentral sees the the CBus drop tamper but it is not being passed to the panels.

1e. The MiniCentral sees the the CBus raise alarm but it is not being passed to the panels.

2. The panel expects a number string. While each button press is transmitted through the CBus system. Thus minCentral buffers the incoming CBus button presses and passes the mas strings. I haven't come across situations where the panel and miniCentral are out of synch with each other. WIll have to look into that....to see what is going on.

3. The miniCentral blocks but stores all the zone states during system being disarmed. We originally were passing the message onwards but were asked by Clipsal to block them. The reason behind it was that people are home so there would be alot of CBus traffic. I have looked through the documentation to see which note specifically states that....I couldn't find it. But I do remember we asked to remove it when CBus was approving our product.

4. See Point 2.

5. Yes miniCentral should work with the M1. It needs to set appropriately (ie. DIP switch) and port connections....see specs.

My comments

It would appear that some functionality (such as the tampers) is supposed to be supported but for some reason is not. I never got to the bottom of these things as communication with NESS stopped.
I suspect the MiniCentral supports them, but there is some sort of interfacing issue between the MiniCentral and the panel, but I'm only guessing.
