    Hi Guys
I have a client who would like to control his Cbus system by dialing in.
However after reading the posts on here it seems the CBTI doesnt work. He will be using an answer machine, I dont want to sugest this option and it end up being a pain in the backside, so what is the current situation with answer phones.

In general how does the CBTI work, is it a case of afer so many rings the CBTI answers the call and if a certain key isnt pressed it diverts to the answer machine.

Or does the answer machine pick up the call anyway and this can be interupted by entering a code to access the CBTI, in which case does the answer phone record the session with the CBTI (voice menu key tones etc)

If this doesnt work properly are then any other options to dial in and control Cbus.

    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks
    Mark

Second phone line is the PERFECT option for those with lots of $

The CBTI has had a firmware update.

It can now answer on a 2nd dial in.

ie - dial in, let phone ring for X rings, hangup

within about a minute or so, dial in again, let phone ring for X rings, this time CBTI will pick it up.

In this case you want to set the answering machine to answer after a few more rings than the CBTI.

    Example:

Set answering machine to answer after 6 rings
Set CBTI to answer after 3 rings, on 2nd dial in attempt.

Want to leave a message: dial no, ring... ring... (6 times) - answering machine picks up, leave message.

Want to control your house: dial no, ring, ring, ring. HANGUP.
Wait a few seconds (typically about 15 to 20)
Ring in again: ring, ring, ring.... answers: "Welcome to C-Bus... please select from blah blah"

Ask our mate PeterC. I did this mod just for him. He's stopped complaining about it since then!

    ukdavros, Duncan and ashleigh,

    Yes, it does work!

We had a lot of trouble with answering machines, and I mean a lot.

Ashleigh kindly (only after 2.5 years, 347 emails, 39 phone calls to his home between 1am & 3am, 3 failed car bomb attacks and a bunch of roses) corrected this issue.

The client has had trouble free operation for the past 10 months.

Great idea Ashleigh ;) No more complaints :)

    ukdavros,

i can confirm that it works well in my experience too in the UK. I have a couple of customers who fit them on their installations as standard (instead of the PCI), then they can twek the program via toolkit if necessary without haveing to go back to site. This is especially useful if the client and installer are the other side of the country. Should be good for you in Ireland.

Speak with Joe Crawford at Schneider in Maynooth and he'll point you in the right direction.

    Good luck,

    Graham.

    Peter - you exaggerate!

It was only 2 years, 234 emails, and 12 phone calls in the wee small hours.

And it was your idea too!

ANYHOW, finally, something thats got oodles of flexibility.
