    Hi All,
I'm having trouble getting a project out of a
    5000CT original B/W touchsceen
The unit seems to operate correctly, the screen is all garbled but still good enough to work with
Toolkit finds the unit ok, i can connect to the unit and have used toolkit to change the unit address from 0 to 255
But it wont download via the cbus connection using any address. i have only done this 2 or 3 times before so can't think why it isn't working.
I do have a 5000CTD2 B/W desktop unit and that works ok

    Any ideas please...

    specs are...
    cbus F/W 4.5.00
    Ctouch F/W 3.80.0

    Toolkit Ver 1.15.6
    Piced Ver 4.13.1.45

Transferring projects via cbus to a 5000CT was always a slow and unreliable process. You would be much better off using the serial connection. At least that way you know if the screen actually works.

Also, you can't retrive a project from the original 5000CT via CBUs or serial anyway.

Also, also, be careful downloading projects via cbus without checking if they have matching firmware. You can't transfer firmware over cbus and if you transfer a project file from a newer version of PICED that supports more recent firmware than in the device you will brick it and it's a pain to recover.

It's the same as the PCI serial interface and PAC which is in their respective manuals. Let me know if you can't find it.

Well that was very confusing. I pulled out a 5000CT and my usual cable I use on the PCI and PAC and it didn't work. I looked at the wiring and it was as specified in your linked post. Unfortunately I couldn't find my original 5000CT cable (its been about 15 years since I programmed one :))

So I checked all the voltages coming out of the touch screen and there were none. I dismantled it and found it doesn't supply the -ve RS232 rail for the Tx line. This used to be quite common as the incoming DTR line was used to supply power to the Tx line. So I hooked up the DTR line to the DSR and it still didn't work. So I checked if I was getting voltage on the Rx end of the DB9, but the voltage was on the Tx line. So I swapped the Rx and Tx lines and it burst into life.

So contrary to popular belief, the 5000CT is not compatible with the 5500PCI and PAC cable.

    Anyway, the connections are:

    DB9 Rj45
    2 6
    3 5
4 2 (or 1,3,7 or 8 - It picks power off any of these)
    5 4

If you use the Jaycar DB9 to RJ45 adapter
    https://www.jaycar.com.au/d9-female...jpzoPuiduTHw6EpbdpLTFGsmVIOnoX7htpSaCySI17EtH

the colours are: (assuming they haven't changed them since I bought my last one)
    2 Yellow
    3 Green
    4 Orange
    5 Red

Let me know how you go.

Now I'm going to have to find a use for my 5000CT instead of it hiding in the Cbus spare parts bin ;)

I sold one on ebay several years ago, the guy just wanted a scene controller. Put it in his electrical panel once all set.

Something else to keep in mind is that these early Touch Screens were only good for about 100 write cycles, so don't keep uploading projects into them to test. Do all your testing in piced.

That cable will also work for the 5500PC and 5500PACA rs232 ports. Put a big label on it so you don't lose it like I did :)
