Searching for C-Bus Networks

Searching for C-Bus Networks

    If you've ever:

    • mixed up your Serial/USB Connectors
    • not been sure which Serial Port your PCI is plugged into
    • not known the IP Addresses of available CNI's.

Then there's a neat little bit of functionality in Toolkit that might help. Its called "Search for Networks" and it can be accessed by selecting "Search For Networks" from the Projects Menu at the top of your screen.

The Search For Networks Wizard allows you to search for PCI's connected to Serial Ports or to Search for CNI's connected to your immediate ethernet network. A Checkbox is provided for both of these connection types.

If you've checked the "Scan Serial Ports" option each of available Serial Ports will be scanned to determine if a PCI can be seen, if a PCI is seen the PCI will be probed in an attempt to determine how many units are on the C-Bus Network it is connected to and the Project Name that has been set on that Network. Once this process is complete, and if a Network has been found, you can select the COM Port from the list and Click "Open Project". Alternatively, if you've also selected the "Scan CNI's" option you can then move on to do that.

If you've checked the "Scan CNI's" Option, something called a UDP Broadcast will be made over your Ethernet Network, this will cause all known CNI's to report themselves. Subsequently, Toolkit will connect to each of these CNI's to determine how many units are on the C-Bus Network it is connected to and the Project Name that has been set on that Network. Once this process is complete, and if a Network has been found, you can select the CNI you want from the list and Click "Open Project".
