I have a new HP Spectre Laptop running a full version of Microsoft windows and I cant get my new laptop to talk at all, it has a type c usb port and cbus sees the com port but I can scan a com port or anything.
thinking its the adaptor cable but it works for everything else

Some suggestions would be very helpful:confused:

    Hi scottthesparky
I don't have any experience with USB Type C but it would be interesting to know some more details.

Brand and model of USB Type C adapter.

CBus interface you are trying to connect to eg USB PCI, PACA or Touchscreen.

If I was going to try anything it would be Google your laptop and USB adapter for similar problems.
Perhaps have a look for some compatibility settings on your USB Type C port.

I have tried an Apple USB type C male to USB -A Female adaptor. with a USB Printer cable to a 5500 interface with a USB printer type port and also tried with an RS232 type port.
It works on everything but C-BUS.

I wouldn't know how to check compatibility settings

Can you see the PCI in device manager?

    Hi scottthesparky
Ports only show up in device manager when the device is connected to the PC.
If the device is not showing up in device manager it will not work.

You say other USB peripherals are working via the USB C adapter?

When you plug in the PCI does device manager refresh to show an unknown device?
That would indicate a missing driver.

If so perhaps you could try to uninstall and reinstall Toolkit or update the driver by using browse my computer for driver software
C:\Program Files (x86)\Clipsal\Clipsal USB Driver Installer

If that doesn't help, it could be a USB C adapter compatibility issue.
    Or the cable.

Ringing CIS tech support is also a good option.

cgate keeps crashing on Window 10

Is anyone experiencing cgate crashing on Window 10 when trying to connect to the CBus network? I am runing the latest CBus Toolkit 1.14.1, cgate runs fine as service until I try and connect to Cbus network. I have look into the Window Event Manager but error is not very helpful, seems generic.

I have tried reverting back Toolkit 1.12.4, but same issue.

I have another laptop runing Window 7 with ToolKit 1.14.1 and all is good, successfully connects to Cbus network with cgate crashing.

I am connecting via PCI via USB cable coverter.

Any assistance would be much appreciated..

    Thanks.

Here is a few things to check.

Some USB to RS232 converters are known to cause problems previously.
Perhaps you could mention the chipset or make and model.
Since yours works on another PC kind of rules that out but it may be a converter driver issue.

First check device manager, check the PCI is showing up and note the com port number .
Make sure you select that com port in Toolkit.
If it is an existing project you might need to edit the network connection details in Toolkit.

There has been other problems in the past when people install Toolkit to disk locations other than the default.

Check the usual things which can stop a new program from working like the firewall and anti virus.
Has the PC had a restart?
Check the CGate service is running.

Is your project on the PC?
I guess it might not be if you have a new Windows 10 machine.

Even if you do have the project I would create a new project in Toolkit, set the network connection details manually and try to connect by using the open network button.

If you are having trouble calling CIS tech support is a good idea.

Clipsal USB Driver installer is broken

I found this thread because I've also been having trouble getting my USB connection (to a Pascal unit) to work. I've figured out and worked around the problem, but it's a bug in the USB Driver Installer.

After installing the latest CBusToolkit (ver 1.14.4) on a Win10 laptop that didn't have any previous c-bus software, nothing would happen when I plugged in the USB cable connected to the PAC. Normally Windows chimes when a new USB device is plugged in. After lots of digging, I determined that the USB driver wasn't installed. The toolkit installer would normally do this, so why didn't it?

The toolkit installer puts the USB driver installer in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Clipsal\Clipsal USB Driver Installer". So I ran the installer (CBusUSBInstaller_x64.exe) manually. That's when the problem became clear. The first click-through page requires that you accept the license agreement, but the agreement text is blank. Apparently the license agreement file is missing. If you click accept and next, nothing happens (i.e., you are stuck on the same page and can't move forward). The missing file is named "SLAB_License_Agreement_VCP_Windows.txt". If you add a file with this name to the installer directory, the installer runs as it should and succeeds. After this, the USB connection worked as expected.

Note to Clipsal engineers: please fix and post an update to the CBusToolkit.

    Hi CJL7
Could you check help about and post the build number of Toolkit 1.14.4 you have installed.

    The version info is:
    C-Bus Toolkit: ver. 1.14.4 (build 2318)
    Server: C-Gate v2.10.6 (build 3145)

Sorry about not replying sooner. I didn't think to come back and check the thread for updates and hadn't realized that I can get email notifications of new posts.

I have 1.14.4 build 2318 running fine on my Windows 10 desktop.

A few weeks ago I uninstalled the USB driver in Windows 10 to test if and how to reinstall it.
It reinstalled fine using the method I mentioned above.

I did not try to run the installer.

Toolkit 1.14.4 build 2323 had some problems and that is why I asked.

Its now August, and I seem to be getting exactly the same problem that BillieGee experienced back in March. Anyone know how to fix this?

Found the problem, and the solution.

I uninstalled c-gate and the toolkit, then reinstalled, at that point it wanted me to enable the Windows TelNet client, when I'd installed on Windows 7 Ultimate it had suggested I do that, I'd ignored it and everything worked fine. Seems you shouldn't ignore it on Win10.

A re-install and the TelNet client enabled, and it all seems to be working fine now

cgate keeps crashing on Window 10

Performed unitall and reinstall of CBus Toolkit 1.14.1 with 1.14.7, and cgate window service doesn't crash, and connects to CBus network.

    Thanks MichaelD :)
