Hi, just hoping a few people out there could point me in the right direction.
I recently bought a house with c-bus 2 installed, there's a few things i'd like to change but not entirely sure what program i should be using.

There was no program backups given with the property, am i able to download this from the existing installation?

My reason for wanting to change a few things is my dimmer switches for the lights dim them but instantly ramp them back up to 100% luminosity then back down to 0% until i hit the off switch.

If i need to purchase software, where do i buy this and what price would i be looking at?

    Thanks in advance, Mel.

You don't need to buy the software (called c-bus toolkit), it is free off the CIS website. There will be a link to the latest version in the thread about C-bus toolkit. Only issue is weather the installer left behind a PC interface for you to use.

You can extract the config out of the existing network without the original config file however it won't show the "nice" names the original installer would have given to certain loads and devices. But shouldn't be too hard to work out what is what and for you to give them meaningful names yourself.

Theres a PC interface installed with a USB cable. I had a look around on the software but didn't attempt to do anything, too worried i'd ruin the current installation.
How do i extract the config file?

The webinars sound great, unfortunately my russian is probably the equivalent skill level of a 2 year old  I look forward to your english version

C-Bus Toolkit is available here: http://www.clipsal.com/cis/downloads.php3

Note: before proceeding further I strongly recommend you install C-Bus Toolkit and read the Help File. It is very comprehensive and clicking Help anywhere in C-Bus Toolkit will take you to the help for that section.

In short however, a superficial overview of how you can dabble without affecting your system:

You can use the "Find C-Bus Networks" option in C-Bus Toolkit to create a new project based on your existing network.

Once Toolkit has scanned the units you can select them all and Transfer To Database. The "config file" Ashley W refers to is this project database file (typically stored in C:\Clipsal\C-Gate2\tag) and it now holds a copy of your network's configuration. You can then close your C-Bus network and unplug it, and freely examine and edit units in the Database View as much as you like to learn your way around the system. When you've had enough just delete that project and create a new project again to work with for real. Changes aren't written to the C-Bus network unless it is connected and you have the "Save to Network" option ticked when saving a Unit Dialog.

PS - if you have any touchscreens on your network there is a different type of project file for those which you can recreate using the PICED software.
