    Hi Team,

I have three dimmers and a relay. My CBUS lighting system went OFF unexpected possibly because a fault fan in other room creating load issues to be clear, the CBUS lighting turned off and all 7x Wall Panel Switch Pads were "dead" i.e.: no amber light or power present.

I then turned off my three dimmers and relay and then turning them back on in the following order:

    1) Turned on -> L55112RVF Relay
    2) Then turned on 1st Dimmer = 8Ch L5508D1A
    3) then turned on 2nd Dimmer = 8Ch L5508D1A
    4) and then turned on 3rd Dimmer = 4Ch L5504D2A

I now have all dimmers and relays with solid green lights, though when i turned the third dimmer on, it caused the two previous dimmer units to flash for a while before going solid which i figured was unusual as that didn't happen when powering the first and second dimmer.

So the issue i have that i need help with is, 3x out of the 7x Wall Panel Switch Pad is working fine and the other 3x Wall Panels are "dead" or should i say "offline" with no signal/power amber light present when pressing any of the buttons.

Any idea why the 3x remaining wall switch panel pads are offline? As and FYI, there is no correlation between the third dimmer and these the three wall switch panels because other light via other panels work fine through that dimmer.

Note: I don't have computer access. I do have a 5500PC and do have a serial RS232 cable but don't have a laptop anymore with this port so i hope i don't have to connect to resolve.

    Thank you in advance

Sounds like you have a power issue in the C-Bus system. If you have had a shorted fan it may well have damaged the dimmer module. I would recommend that you have a C-Bus installer or integrator look at the system.

    Hi Dutchy

Perhaps your right. I turned on the lights this morning and they turned off after a 2 minutes. I noticed that all three dimmers plus the relay now have the "Unit" LED flashing. I've read that, this means "Unit in override mode".

I did notice that the 5500PC device (which has the connection feed which then links into the relay) has two solid amber lights, could this device be causing the issue?

    Thank you in advance

    5500PC should have 2 solid LED's

    page 7-CBus indicators
Begin by checking all the CBus indicators.

If the wall switches are out it is commonly caused by a lack of CBus power eg a circuit breaker powering some of the CBus equipment has tripped or damage to the pink CBus cabling.
Has someone recently been working at the home or in the ceiling space?
Is there another switchboard you haven't checked?

    Hi DarylMC

50% of the wall switched are working "only when" I can get all 3x dimmers and 1x relay to both "Green Solid LED's". But as per above reply to Dutchy, lights then turn off and then all 3x Dimmers and 1x relay go back to both Green LED's Flashing.

I was questioning if the 5500 PC device needs to have green solid LED's or amber?

Using the link you sent suggest "Override and or Insufficient Power" when both keep flashing.

I went and check my external switch board, i even turned mains off and on (i ensured CBUS was set to off when i did this), however no change.

To answer your question, the only event that took place prior to the CBUS going offline for the first time, was i had a fan only drying out the carpet which may have caused a short circuit. Since that event, i have had these errors.

The 5500 PC LED's are both amber. This device is a small box unit that the connections pink UTP feed into before linking back into the relay.

    Any ideas?

Hi Team, I should point out, if I remove the pink UTP cable that comes from the 5500PC into the relay, i can manually press all dimmer port device port LED's and thus control all lights.

Meaning only the relay goes into "override" (unit light flashing) mode and all manually works from the patch panel.

This is why i thought the 5500PC was faulty but even if i bypass this device and go straight into the relay the same errors occur.

    Perhaps faulty cable.

    Hmm.

"I was questioning if the 5500 PC device needs to have green solid LED's or amber?"
I think they only do amber.
Flashing CBus indicator LED is a problem and shows low CBus Voltage.
    • a tripped breaker or missing phase to a CBus power supply unit you haven't noticed or in another switchboard
    • a faulty power supply within one of the CBus units which has a power built in power supply
    • damage or a problem with the CBus wiring
    • a faulty CBus unit causing too much load
If your supply is good and all the breakers are on might be time to call someone.

You make a valid point DarylMc, thanking you.

Right now i went and had a look and the CBUS indicator is hard green and all the Unit indicators are flashing which suggests "unit in override mode" yet is not as the relay has the pink connections cable inserted.

The fact that i sometimes get different results, could mean supply which is inline with Dutchy's comments . I have an electrician coming today and if that fails i will call out a CBUS tech.

    Hi Gents,

The electrician came this afternoon and measured 228v at each Dimmer and Relay, which is low but within the operating parameters, only just though.

I will now get a CBUS specialist, unless you guys get a light bulb moment.

    Cheers CBUS Home User.

    Hi Gents,

The issue has been resolved. The C-Bus technician re-terminated the inbound connections UTP cable, which fixed it.

    Thanking you
