My C-Touch? 6.4" Colour Touch Screen is dead and I've lived without it for a while now.

I have an Acer Tablet which we use around the house.

    1. Can I "substitute" the acer tablet and use it to replace the C-Touch? 6.4" Colour Touch Screen (after loading the software etc on it).

    2. Can I run the Acer Tablet off the current wireless network using the Cbus network interface (which I have and can be easily hard-wired to my wireless router).

I figure spending $4000 on a new C-Touch? 6.4" Colour Touch Screen a bit steep, plus I could have the same functionality from the Acer Tablet (connected wirelessly) from any room in the house

    Hello cbusnewbie.

    1. Yes. You can run HomeGate or Schedule Plus software and you will also need the appropriate software dongle. Just be aware you will have a ~30mm dongle with a bright green flashing light on the end.

    2. Yes. I would suggest not running scenes or schedules on this device. If your network drops out you these items won't work.

As an option, run HomeGate on another PC and VNC in on the tablet (or iPad etc)

Just buy a wiser and sell in e-bay your old cni

    Pros (+)
    1. Wiser does not need a running computer to execute schedules or logic
    2. It can be access not only from your tablet, but also from your mobile or the rest computers of the house or from anywhere in the world
    3. Wiser is itself a wi-fi Internet repeater

    Cons(-)
    1. The interface is much simpler. You can not have plan views for example.
    2. There is not yet a android application if you have android mobile.

    Hi cbusnewbie

Yes you could use your PICED project from the CTC on your PC running Homegate software.

Sounds like you have everything you need to give it a go.

You could download and try it out for free
    http://www2.clipsal.com/cis/technical/downloads/home_gate

It has a time limitation and banner on the free version.

As others mentioned it requires a usb hardware dongle for the licenced version which would be a pain on a tablet or laptop.

You would have problems if you have scenes or logic in your project stored on the CTC when the tablet went to sleep or lost network connectivity.

Also I would not sell the CNI even if you buy a Wiser in case you ever want to use a 3rd party application or multiple connections to your CBus network.

And what Mr Mark said :)

If you don't have Adobe Flash support on your device, then you'll need a native application. I believe there is a native Wiser Android app. You may also wish to contact Clipsal/Schneider and ask to be part of the beta trials for the Wiser Android app.

Remote USB - wigwam for a goose's bridle

If you end up going the route of a PC Tablet a device by Welland Industries call Netshare will allow you to have the Homegate licence dongle remotely plug in. You will be able to network that old printer and web cam that is sitting around doing nothin :)
