In the past I have been able to connect to cbus via a PAC using the usb cable.

Since upgrading to the latest version of tool kit and PICED I can not any more at one customer site

PICED still works fine and can upload project fine.

If I close PICED and try and connect via toolkit on the same serial interface

    get this error

Can't open: c-bus interface (port failure (Serial parameter setting failed: IO Exception: config failed:5003)): com3

I tried on two different laptops and get the same result with the latest toolkit.

    any ideas ?

Some more information that might be useful.

I just tried with same laptop on my office PAC and it works fine.

So it must be related to the PAC onsite.
I did a complete powerdown and reset of the PAC onsite (remove all cables) no difference

it has worked before (with older software can not remember which)

The PAC onsite was purchased when the PAC was first released so it would be a generation 1

It also shows up in device manager as

"CP210x USB to UART Bridge Controller"

    Not a

    "C-Bus Pascal Automation Controller (5500PACA)"

does this extra info help why you can not connect to cbus through it. ??

    does no one know what

port failure (Serial parameter setting failed: IO Exception: config failed:5003)):

    Means ??

I assume that the USB id being wrong would not effect it (this was the early batch that had this problem)

I have logged a support case.

    I am being told

"I reckon its PC interface mode gone faulty"

Can this really happen ? is the PC interface separate circuitry ?

What is happing to cause this error

is it sending special serial commands to put in PC mode and it is failing ?

would the USB id being wrong effect this problem ?? is has not been in the past.

I really don't want to waste mine and the customer time back revving to old software/firmware to see if that fixes the problem

Has my support case logged via official channels got to the engineers yet ?

I would like to get this resolved.

    PCI Mode

    Hello Charles.

Just a thought, have you tried resetting the PCI mode via Diagnostic Utility?

    Regards,

    Hi Charlie,

Even though it's an old unit I'm surprised it doesn't work - we aim to support all units in the field. Perhaps that one slipped through the net.

I had a dig through our archives and found this PAC driver from 2005. To be honest I haven't tested it and have no idea if it will work (I don't have a gen 1 PAC) so please give it a try at your own risk.
