Not done a job where towel rails need controlling via C-Bus so seek esteemed advise. :)

I am not sure what the best and safest way of connecting the relay switched power to the rail would be. Not comfortable putting a standard GPO in where any thing could be plugged in (unlikely) but possible. Was thinking about using a round pin earth GPO Clipsal 2015L with a mating plug top with round earth.

Alternatively the towel rails that are most likely being used have concealed wiring option with a 1.4m cable connected which could be run up into the roof space and could be fitted off in a J box.

    Wonder what you guys do?

    Regards,

I have seen a few where the 3 pin plug is removed and hard wired onto a two gang plate - one gang for a switch and the other for a cord grip. Neat and simple, with a local isolating switch.

It seems to be common in NZ to run them into a wall box style outlet with a cord grip + a plain switch (as override / off).

In Aust though, I'd suggest the concealed exit, up thru the wall cavity (if you have one), and then JB in the roof space. Its neater, and in Aust you need to watch out for the wiring rules, as requirements for GPOs, switches etc in wet areas are strict, and you need to read them carefully and understand them. It's VERY easy to put things in places that are unsafe, and even advice from seasoned sparkies can be wrong. Read your AS 3000! And the go concealed, where your hassles (mostly) go away.

    All good advise, thanks guys.

Seems my daughter and SIL who the current project is for has decided concealed is the way to go.

I am in no way promoting the rails that they are leaning towards but thought I would let other members know of them. http://www.heatedtowelrails.net.au/index.htm

Seem to have reasonable range. I rang yesterday and on the concealed version they fit a 1.4m cable to LHS or RHS just need to nominate at time of order.

Radiant... I put one of those in. Have no complaints at all - apart from installation was a little fiddly doing the concealed. Just take time and care.
