I am unable to get toolkit to communicate with a 5500PC. Toolkit is set for Com1. I have re-installed toolkit,c-gate and java. It works fine on another identical PC.

I realise its the PC thats at fault. I have tested the Com port using Hyperterminal and looping pins 2 & 3, all appears okay. Getting error 22918 when trying to connect to network. The LEDs on the PCI do not flash, solid ON. This was a previously working okay, nothing to my knowledge has changed on the PC except maybe Microsoft updates. I have uninstalled the Com port, checked for new drivers, reinstalled old drivers, disabled the Com port in the bios. Nothing seams to work.

The PC has a Intel Motherboard D915PBL with onboard ports running Windows XP Pro SP3.

Any assistance would be appreciated or has enyone else had this problem. I am going to try using a serial port card or a USB to serial converter. Very sure its a software issue.

    Regards
    Steve

See if the C-Bus Diagnostic Utility will communicate with the PCI.

Have you tried a different cable?

    Thanks Darren,

C-Bus Diags can't find the PCI, the cable and the PCI are okay as it works on another PC. The "Unit Comm" LED flashes when I plug the serial cable in.

Sad to say... if the cable and PCI work on another PC, then you PC where it does not work is the cuplrit.

    Is this a laptop ?

Laptops with lousy serial ports are surprisingly common.

No it's not a laptop, the PC worked fine up until a few weeks ago. Have removed any software that may use Com ports. the cables okay, the Com port checks out okay using Hyperterminal.

Is there a command that can be entered into Hyperterminal to communicate with the PCI?

    Frustrated Steve

    If the PCI is connected....

Make sure your serial ports are set to 9600 bps, 8 bits, no partity, 1 stop bit.

The in hyperterminal, type the ~ character.

Type quite a few of them.

The ~ should be echoed back at you.

Whilst in Hyperterminal without typing any characters I am recieving "Left Arrows"

If I type ~ I get no response and no activivty on the Comm LED on the PCI

the characters receieved every second means that you are receiving the handshake sysmbol from the PC Interface and that X-on / X-off handshaking is selected. If the tilde (~) character doesn't stop this, then perhaps your baud rate (in hyperterminal) is not set to 9600.

Hyperterminal is set to 9600-8-N-1. Changed to Xon/Xoff flow and characters stopped. But ~ does nothing.

I'm going to start removing Microsoft Updates.

    Thanks

    Hi Steve,

I'm having the same error 22918, The Toolkit cant communicate with the PCI, It just happen without doing anything to the PC.

When I tried to Scan the C-Bus network interface, the project name stated Failed Indentify.

May I know how do you resolve ur PCI error?

In case this helps anyone, having just had this problem and not seen this solution:

We had a laptop with USB <-> Serial which tested fine in the office talking to a PCI (the same laptop and PCI that went to site), but we also got the 22918 error when we tried on site.

The difference turned out to be that in the office the laptop was running on power, and on site it was running from battery. Putting the laptop onto power solved the problem for us.

Laptop just started doing same thing.
    Anybody know the fix.
    Windows 7 and toolkit 1.12.5
Have old laptop plugged in to same lead, PCI etc and it works fine.
    Old computer has toolkit 1.11.7
Have noticed on laptop that is not working the window for C-Gate does not appear but toolkit shows C-Gate connected.
    Thanks
