I am changing an old Cbus dimmer for 5508D1D and wanted to alter the unit address before connecting to the network, as I'm new to the Spacelogic software how do I find the unit after connecting it through the USB-C connection?

    Hi
you will need to have a cbus power supply (or power up dimmer with 240v if that dimmer has a internal power supply) plus a PC interface with system clock and burden enabled. You can just add it to existing cbus network and it will appear as a new unit.

For this process with the new dimmer:

As Graham has already mentioned, you need a powered C-Bus network to connect to. The new dimmer can be connected to the C-Bus network and powered via the USB-C connection. So, in this case, the new dimmer does not need 230V connected.

The new dimmer will be discoverable over C-Bus using SLCC software, where you can re-address the device as you require.

If you have a project already for the old dimmer, you may also right-click on the old dimmer in the project List shown in SLCC software and convert it to the new dimmer. You may then transfer the new dimmer settings so that it is ready to run onsite.

Please note, if programming offsite, the new dimmer will not have the loads of each channel confirmed as Trailing or Leading Edge. This task must still be done using the front panel of the dimmer or the SLCC software with the dimmer on the live network once installed on site. If you fail to confirm the mode after installation, the loads will not follow normal ramp times from C-Bus and will appear to operate slowly for on and off. They may also not turn back on immediately when turned off and on again.

If using SLCC software the confirm mode options are found using right mouse click over the Live Network Unit in the list, there is a wizard here for confirming mode of channels.

So, do not forget to confirm your mode on-site after installation.

    Colin,
Much appreciated for the advice, so really the USB-C connection is a replacement for 230V power and a C-BUS network is still required for offsite programming.

    That is Correct

in addition the USB-C is also available to update the firmware if required. While this is possible just using usb-c for the firmware update in most devices, the dimmer may need power (230) on both banks 1 and 2 when doing a firmware update in order to update the firmware for each channel of the dimmer if that is required.
