Although good news, I would have thought an LED driver would have been more a priority with huge demand for LED lighting these days.

Too much money as well, but a small market so it unfortunately has to be expensive.

Of all the things they could spend their time on, it's re-inventing the wheel. Wiser version 3. Good grief :(

Alternatively, less money and a bigger market share.

Ten years of led lighting and we are still trying to dim them with phase control dimmers. I give up

It's not really Wiser version 3...

Schneider has now adopted "Wiser" as a range name for anything targeted at residential. Whilst some of the functionality of these new controllers does overlap with the existing Wiser2 product, it's not really a replacement.

It's also not really reinventing the wheel. These new controllers do just about everything the PAC does and a lot more(eg native BACnet, Modbus, a dedicated CNI).

Other than DALI, it's probably still the closest thing to a standard interface.

I'm just the engineer who designs what I'm told by the powers that be (although occasionally they do listen to us :p), but from my somewhat sheltered perspective, I don't see many LED lamps that would require a dedicated LED driver. I am fully aware of the limitations of phase control dimming of LED fittings, and of the shortcomings of the current C-Bus dimmers in this regard, but is the solution really a dedicated LED driver, or just a phase control dimmer that works better with LED?
What sorts of fittings to you install so many of that a dedicated LED driver would be a benefit? What interface would such a driver have?

    Cheers,

    Nick

I think part of the problem here is the product has been revealed/released without the documentation or at least the sales brochures being available.

This just leads to speculation as to what the product actually is and does.

    Any News?

    Hi Nick
I assume there is an NDA in place, but since it was shown off at the race,
Can you reveal when we may know more details ?
    Product release date?

Yes... from my point of view, it was nice to see someone talking about it, but frustrating to not be able to say much.

As far as I know, it was made available for sale as of yesterday.

I would assume that this means there is information on some Schneider website somewhere... I'll see what I can find.

There are 2 versions, one targeted at residential (5500SHAC), and one targeted at commercial (5500NAC).

    Computer says No

    From the SE website:
Part number 5500SHAC is not available in Australia.
Please contact the Customer Care Centre on 1300 369 233 for more information.

    From Clipsal website:
You searched for 5500SHAC. Did you mean: 5500pac
You searched for 5500NAC. Did you mean: 500vac

    So I guess not yet

Make a modular DIN mount unit with replaceable modules exactly like the dynalite modular controller.

Then make a PWM 350mA and 700mA Constant current module in several popular sizes, maybe a 6w, 10w, 20w

These can control downlights, led strips, cabinet lights, step lights, garden lights, the list goes on and on.

Then make a relay module, and a universal dimmer module.

For reference it would function like a PLC where you buy a controller with X amount of expansion slots, then slide in whatever expansion card you need for the job. Simple.

I feel like if implemented properly would greatly reduce the cost of a CBUS installation, reduce the lost money on warranty (change single module not whole unit) easy upgrade ability and future proofed.

Instead of the SILC rubbish, make the SILC dimmers CBUS enabled or at least allow CBUS to control a dimming signal run on the power line that the lights are connected to. Just like using Ethernet over Power. Eliminate the cost and complexity of DALI in the home using this.

Just a late night thought or two.

    Just not practical

This is a nice design feature, but it's not C-Bus. Use Dynalite where most suitable / practical.

So you are proposing to run a DC supply and cabling to each individual LED module from this unit?
So will you bundle that with the AC wiring?
    How will you manage interference?
How will you manage voltage drop?
How is running so many extra cables more cost effective, practical or even sensible?

There are many reasons such a product does not exist.

    Wow
It is great that you have the device.
I never used Wiser so I would like to know how this gadget goes with mobile devices and web browsers.
Is it a bit the same as Wiser?

There are others with more in-depth knowledge than me but:

    - All the configuration is on-device - PICED is not needed. Most of the screenshots in the previous post are from the "Configurator" section.

    - The scripting language is Lua, with some C-Bus specific functions added.

    - The end-user UI is also on-device - you can make a shortcut on your PC to the "PC/Tablet Visualization" webpage and another on your phone to the "Smartphone Visualization" webpage.
