There are two batteries. The small CR style on the circuit board. If this is flat and you loose power to the panel your program is gone.

The other optional battery is the aux / backup battery 12volt 7ah style which when connected backs up aux powered devices - keypads, PIR's etc if used. this bit is a hangover from the very early (misguided) days of regarding a Minder as a security system. In all the years the number of people who managed to take a Minder and make it perform like a proper security system you could count on a butchers left hand.

    Nope !.

Looks like the Thinkbox which the Minder became after its Clipsal days has even disappeared.

Thanks lucky555, I have a sneaking suspciion that is what has happened to this unit, I've just finished replacing all their emergency lights so I can have a play with the main lights next week after the batteries charge on the emergency lights.

You'll find more info on the current state of Jeaves/Minder/Thinkboxx (and a couple of others I can't remember) over here

    Cheers

Should I admit that I am someone who has managed to make it into a decent security system? Never had an issue on that front. The only issue I have is the keypad looses comms once every few days, which I beleive is a keypad firmware fault, hence why I asked the question about other keypads.

In fact I have been very happy with Minder. Next year I intend building a new place and am not really too impressed with the modern alternatives, in particular I will need so many different boxes to do the same basic function.

Check http://www.comfortforums.com/ you should get an answer on the firmware there. Also check the manufacturers website, there is a link on the forum site.

The MK2 software can actually talk to the MK1 as well.

I think you will find more help on the other forum, that I posted a link to.

    Cheers

I assume to find the firmware vers you would have to look at the PCB to see what's written on it!
The minder was installed Feb 1997 & has the 5222 daughter board attached on top of it.

Isn't the comfort system called Minder Pro which is different to the Minder I & II, aka Thinkboxx? Or is there some Thinkboxx discussions in there that are not obvious?

I know the forum that Rohan had a link to discussed the firmware issue, but for some reason that forum has been off the air since I tried to check something about a month ago?

Your right the Comfort is a different product.

The forum that I linked to http://www.integratorsforum.com/index.php is still alive and working (although a little quiet).

The reason I suggested posting there, is there a a few Minder users there and you are more likely to get unbiased answers that are actually helpful.

    Cheers

Interesting it is alive because all I get is:

    "Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /index.php on this server.

    Apache/2.2.3 (Debian) mod_ssl/2.2.3 OpenSSL/0.9.8c Server at www.integratorsforum.com Port 80"

I have lurked around there, that I how I know there is a firmware issue with the keypad that makes it go off line from time to time.

Just checked from work and get in ok. Maybe that forum doesn't like my home IP address which is from a UK ISP. (Through work I use a VPN to an Australian server)

Send Ross a PM and ask him what's up.

See if this site works for you http://www.cbussales.com/

If not he might be blocking overseas traffic.

    Either way just ask him.

    Cheers
