Not sure if this should be posted here on in the hardware group - but how many serial interfaces are in a PCI? I see there are 2 RJ45 connectors and a DB9 connector, but am I correct in assuming there is only one RS232 interface in the device so it's one external interface per PCI?

You are correct.. Single interface per PCI

The 2 rj45 connectors are the loop in loop out cbus connectors..

Db9 connector is the external rs232 interface connection..

    Cheers..

Actually it's got 4 RJ45 connectors. 2 are C-Bus and 2 are RS232 (as well as the DB9), but all 3 RS232 connectors are wired in parallel as shown in the installation manual so you can only connect to one at a time. Not idea why it would have 2 RJ45 RS232 connectors.

A small number of installations use the RJ-45 serial connections for things like permanent connection to a security alarm system.

I tend to agree that it is a little odd, and rarely used. Nevertheless, for those who need it, it's there.

Thanks for the calrification. I do indeed want to permanently connect it to a Paradox alarm panel via the PRT3 module. I figured the DB9 and RS232 were shared, but the second RS232 is what threw me, seems wierd to have 2 of them (unless you figure they just reused existing parts like the bus loop through ports).

The only problem being that some late nights with little coffee they look awfully like the CBus side... The 232 chip doesn't like 30v very much :p
