    Hi,

While i was creating scenes in the PAC and trying to get these to trigger from the saturn or the toolkit, I was going nowhere fast.

I opened the log windows using PICED to see whats going on and I have discoverd that the Sarturns are indeed trasmitting the Scene trigger request, and even breaking down the groups and levels per group; but these all fail saying the network is offline.

I can resolve this with a cgate command

    open network 254
    set 254 autosync yes

then wait about 60 seconds and Bang we have action. - So why do i need to do this? what would cause the systems to go offline? I have a single network, with about 30 devices.

I went to bed last night with the network online, and tested a scene from a saturn again about 18 hours later - still happy. then when it got dark, I went again to trigger the scene, and nothing.

I had left PICED open but disconnected; and Cgate running in the background of the management PC.

Any clues to whats happening, or workarounds to keep me online?

this is the log for reference

This is offically driving me nuts, and not helping WAF at the moment.

The fix is easy now i know how, but i would love to understand the reason its failing. Looking at the tree i see i have application 208 running, which i do not understand, this network is 100% lighing only with a elk to cbus module to bridge the technologies. [this bridge works well enought but we have a few miss shots and the power up sequence is pretty important if its going to work at all - not sure if that should be the case].

can any guru out there point me in the rigth direction, i dont mind a hard read, if i knew what was the correct thing to read.

    thanks

Once the PAC is programmed and running it has no dependency on C-Gate so it should operate regardless of the C-Gate network state.

You have to physically unplug the USB cable to ensure the PAC goes into "run" mode. To be sure you could even power cycle the PAC.

Back to you C-gate issue... Piced cannot be left for long period in "run" mode as it will "stop running" as it's designed for commissioning and not operational control. There isn't enough information in the logs to determine why you C-Gate network is closing (Maybe this is something Piced is doing?? I'm not sure).

An "event level 9 log" would probably answer the question as to why C-Gate closed the network. The CGate Manual ( http://www2.clipsal.com/cis/technica...ools#Cgatedoco ) covers how to do this in the following section:
    Code:
    Reference|Command and Monitoring Interfaces|Event Interface|Logging with C-Gate

The snippets of log you did post indicated that the network had been in an error state, but the bit that tells you why was missing in the snippet.

Application 208 is the Security Application which is being used by the Elk security panel.

Ah - Maigc, I will follow the steps here and get the logs set to level 9 to see whats happening. I actaully thought it was Ok to keep the USB connected all the time, but thanks for the clarification - i will unconnect this.
I also have a PCI device on the network, for Serial connection to the CQC software system which I have not yet configured, this is designed to be connected on that serial port all the time, and i am assuming thats Ok?.

I was using the USB port on the PACA for the 'Maangment and Programing' connection for both PICED and Toolkit, but never actually unpluged.

Once i get the logs and some more detail Ill repost the results. thank you again.

Darren - thanks for this, I was guessing the ELK was linked to this, I guess that once the ELK module was detected then Applicaiton 208 automatically gets enabled on the network? - I have being able to use the ELK to trigger some lights [groups not scenes yet] on the CBUS, but now im curious to see if the CBUS Applicaiton 208 can tell the ELK to do things.... or if that applicaiton actaully has any value, apart from been required [i assume it is required]

    thanks Guys.

    Application 208 is required.

C-Bus Enabled security systems use Application 208 to send information on what the security system is doing (eg in Alarm, in Tamper, Zone states, etc).

There is also a limited amount of control available on this application, again, this control is available to C-Bus Enabled devices. For example you should find that a C-Bus Touch screen can do things to a C-Bus Enabled Security System. The magical glue that lets this happen is application 208.

Just accept that Application 208 is there, it is special, and don't try and fiddle with it. Fiddling.... it will all end in tears.
