I recently came across a C-bus installation where the neutrals on the switching end of the din rail dimmers were not installed. How will this affect the operation of the dimmer.

Dimmers contains an RC snubber network between their outputs and neutral. This among other things reduces EMi and protects the output Triac/Scr from certain loads. Without the neutral the snubber network won't work correctly which may result in high EMi and potentially damage the dimmer.
