    Hi all,

Just moved into a new house. I programmed all the items individually and the electrician installed. System all works fine with 58 items on the network.

I tried to modify the network after plugging in a cni2, however, toolkit is struggling to read the network (Windows 8.1). It hangs up on scans and misses ever fourth or so item. ( these are different each scan). We I do get it open, every third or so update to an item hangs up as well.

    Any suggestions much appreciated.

    Congratulations on the new home.
First thing I would do is try a plug in burden.
Don't forget you can use the CNI2 manual and LED status indicators to help find problems.

Thanks Darryl, will try the burden. The LEDs are fine with a solid green for Internet and a flashing orange / green for cbus indicating activity

58 units is a good size network. I assume you have sufficient power supplies (and not TOO many).

With that many units you should not need a burden, and having one could cause communication problems, so make sure there are none enabled. They could be in an output unit (in which case only one will be active and that's if it's at address 01. They can also be in any PC Interface based device (PCI, CNI, Touchscreens, Wisers, MRA), so make sure all of these have their burdens disabled.

That's the problem with enabling burden in the output units - if you cant scan the network you cant' tell if its on or not.

Advice I was given many years ago was to use the physical burned - easy to tell if its connected or not.

A fair point, and I tend to agree with that advice.

You can actually check and change the burden state using learn mode.. see the advanced chapter here :

    Learn Mode Operations and Programming.

Thanks all, the hard burden did not make any difference. Will check if there is another enabled somewhere

    Hi all,

Been through and checked all the potential sources of burdens and have them all off and using a hard burden. It has made a little difference but still when I scan the network it misses anywhere between 3-10 items.

    Any other ideas?

    Divide and conquer.

Split the network somewhere convenient and scan each side to find the faulty side. Then split it again and again, until you find the culprit.

    Hi Glen
Are you connecting from the PC to the CBus network interface with Wi-Fi?
I don't normally run into any problems but it is possible.

Quick update in case anyone has any other ideas.

    * tried Windows 10 just in case but made no difference
    * Direct wired to the CNI2 (not wireless) but it still drops anywhere from 3-12 of the items on the network scan.
    * All the item updates work fine, just misses items on network scan and they are different ones each time. (therefore difficult to try and separate items)

The only interesting point is that if I leave PICED running and connected to the CTouch it will eventually pick up all the items. If I then open toolkit, it does not need to scan and all the items are there, however, a rescan goes back to the same problem.

It is a manageable problem as I just have to keep rescanning if it misses an item I need and the system works fine, just a little weird.

    Hi Glen
Do you have any other CBus interface, maybe a PACA?
I haven't had such problems but maybe CGate logs can help if you contact tech support.

    Thanks Daryl,

Just the CNI. Think I will just live with it, was asking more out of interest than anything.
