Before you buy these... what type of fan are you expecting to control? These are for ceiling sweep fans with AC motors that use a multi-tap capacitor in series with the motor for speed control.. they are not for exhaust fans (just use a normal C-Bus relay channel), or DC fans.

I bought two. One for a ceiling fan and one I planned to use for an extractor fan ventilation system. Will it not work for the latter?

Thanks for all your help, much appreciated!

It's designed to so up to 3 speed control for an AC motor for a ceiling sweep fan. You fit the speed control capacitor from the original fan speed controller into the unit.

I have no idea what kind of motor or speed control would be in your extractor fan ventilation system, but it seems unlikely it would have the same kind of motor or speed control.

If you just want to turn a motor on or off, a standard relay would be a better option, or a standard relay driving a contactor if the motor exceeds the rating of the relay.
