This unit was installed about 4 years ago and the green power light is not on, it's been tested and is getting power. A few days ago it failed without warning.

Does this unit have a "reset" button ?

Is it common for the L5512RVF to fail, what would cause it ?

Can it be repaired, or is a new unit necessary ?

If it is replaced could the same thing happen ?

    Thx Newbie

If the unit definitely has mains connected to it's power terminals, but the Unit LED is not illuminated, then the unit has suffered some kind of internal failure and will need to be replaced/repaired.

There is no "reset" button, but even if the unit had such a thing it wouldn't help fix a hardware fault.

Failures on these units are very rare but can happen for all kinds of reasons. The most likely cause would be a spike or surge on the in-coming mains terminals causing some damage in the unit's power supply, although without analysing the unit it's hard to say. If there has been lightning activity, flooding or any number of other crazy things happening on your mains, this may cause it.

If you take the unit to a C-Bus Wholesaler you'll be able to fill out a product fault report. The unit will be returned to Clipsal for analysis and it will either be repaired at a cost or you will be notified that it is beyond economic repair.

Without knowing exactly what's gone wrong it's impossible to say what the cause is and if it may happen again. C-Bus Relay units a generally very robust and cause little trouble.

    Thanks Newman,

Does Clipsal charge an "autopsy" fee?

My installer said 6 weeks for analysis (we can't be without lights for that long), so I guess I'll need a new one?

There's a few on Ebay, but I'm dubious............

Not sure about the "autopsy fee". A quick call to CIS Technical Support could probably answer that though.

C-Bus gear is bought and sold fairly regularly on eBay. You could always just wait until you've checked it and if the product didn't work you could give negative feedback (assuming it was sold as being in perfect working order). That doesn't protect you against the "back of the truck" products though.
