I know there has been previous posts on dimmable GU10 LED lamps. Just wondering if the are any GU10 LED that dim ok on the 5508D1A dimmers that have been released in recent time?

In this application they are going to be 10 paralleled up so they would need to be 30nF or less capacitive load to meet the 5508D1A 300nF capacitive load maximum.

Anyone found any that work OK?

    Regards,

Just a follow up and probably reflects the response here there doesn't appear to be any dimmable GU10 with a TE dimmer especially with 10 in total being the load.

    Way wishful thinking.:)

Changed that circuit over from dimmer to relay.

    Cheers,

Damn - I was watching with anticipation for an answer to this.

Oh well, I stick with halogen.

    Hi Mick,

Sorry there doesn't appear to be an answer. I rang Osram, Philips etc here to try and get qualified answers about their GU10 dimmable products, will they work on LE, what is their input capacitive etc etc. was like I was talking a different language.

In the end given this application had 10 on one load I was concern about the inrush current and potential back EMF at turn on as well as the unknown capacitive loading 10 would bring. Went the safe relay route.

I believe their might be a Philips GU10 still on its way my SIL ordered? If that is the case I will hook it up to the 5508 and let you know how one works.

Hopefully other members still may have experiences to share.

    Regards,

    Fleetz

    Hi fleetz

Relays still make a lot of sense with consumer LED globes.
Didn't I suggest that last year:)

I think DALI is an increasingly attractive option for larger dimmable LED fittings.

If you have a look as Osrams dimming compatibility charts for their LED products there is a rough guideline where the maximum LED wattage per dimmer should not exceed the equivalent halogen wattage.
eg 13W = 60W (or in Philips case in the fine print "not actually equal")

I'm pretty sure I read something along those lines from Philips too.

I don't know if that will help you find some dimmable LEDs but it should help rule some scenarios out.

    see this post re brightgreen

The data sheet indicates it is dimmable by leading, training and universal dimmers. Also appears to accept 0-10V input for dimming.

Going to the local display store later this week to check them out.

    Hi Daryl,

    Yes you did thanks.

Was aware about the equivalent wattage should be used in calculating the maximum dimmer load. This was another consideration going relay.

Too many things going against considering 10 x GU10 on a LE dimmer channel. Not sufficient supplier data, experience told me a minefield was just ahead..

    Cheers,

    Mick,

Think the D900 might be TE or universal dimmer compatible only.

Still may pay to check it out yourself.

read the datasheet, not just the web blurb. The data sheet also inclueds LE dimmers (and some DALI dimmers).

I'll let you know when I get there to try them out.

Probably the biggest issue you have here is that this is a fast moving field and market. So products are constantly being changed or evolved and any recommendations are likely to be valid for only a few months.
