    Hi all,

I was wondering if there was a distance limitation for cabling between C-Bus modules, for example between an 8 channel dimmer and an 8 channel relay?

The reason I ask is I want to put a relay into the garage, in it's own enclosure, but want it to talk to the rest of the C-Bus network. For cost purposes I would want to avoid building to C-Bus networks with a network bridge, but am open to that if it is the only way.

I am well short of the 1km cabling limit as well.

    Thanks in advance!

    C-Bus home automation cabling.

    Hi edgeman,

If as you say your total C-Bus cable length is <1km, and if the locations of your C-Bus devices and C-Bus power supplies on your C-Bus wiring configuration are such that all C-Bus devices receive sufficient DC voltage (considering the voltage drops across the C-Bus cable), then you should be fine.

easiest way is to make sure both (all) the dimmer and relay has a built-in power supply.

I have CBus modules downstairs, upstairs, in the garage, and in an outdoor pavilion. You just have to distribute your power supplies to minimize voltage drop. If you just have a single module at the end of a long run it's very unlikely to be an issue. Also most mains powered dimmers and relays don't draw any power from the CBus network when they have mains power supplied anyway so its generally only input units that are an issue.

    Thanks!

Great, thanks very much for the info, as well as everyone else's replies :)

The garage module will definitely have a power supply in it, there is only 1 dimmer in the main house cabinet that won't, but in that cabinet there are 2 other modules with built-in power supplies, so should be all good.

    Thanks again everyone, greatly appreciated.
