Hi my IP- Addressing skills are quite poor. Could anyone please advise of any does or dont's with a CNI when connecting to my home PC.

Some time ago I addressed this CNI, at the back of my Ethernet port I had a 5 port Clipsal Switch, I plugged in my the CNI in prt 2. Now I have a Netgear 4 port router/ wireless. As I understand it, it handles DHCP so am I correct in assuming that plugging this CNI ( Which Already has an Address) should be right to go ? or should this router be able to automatically readdress the CNI with a new similar address ?

If you have assigned a static IP address to a device, it should always retain that address unless you go back into the device and tell it to get it's address from DHCP. You should be fine to leave the current IP address in your CNI as is, but only if it uses the same address range as the ones that your Netgear Router uses. For example; 192.168.1.x, or 192.168.0.x, or 10.0.0.x
If your CNI does not use the same address range as your Router, then you may have difficulties accessing the CNI from a PC, if the PC is gettings its address from DHCP.
Also, it would pay to have the CNI with a number higher than say .50, because you dont want your router assigning the CNI's address to another device/pc, as this would cause some major pain in the backside issues.
