I attempted to post the essence of these comments under a different thread, but this attempt may have failed ? probably due to my inexperience at this web site. Please excuse me if this current post is now is a duplicate under this new thread.

I have recently read the comments of CABrouwes under the thread titled ?US Line Discontinued?,? and I am now prompted to ask the larger question, above the one that which he has posed there. My question is: ?WHERE IS ?CLIPSAL-AUSTRALIA? GOING WITH PRODUCTS IN THE U.S.??

The background for this question is as follows. Schneider Electric, the current owner of Clipsal in Australia, has apparently made the decision to completely abandon the Clipsal line in the U.S., and at the same time they have decided to not supply replacement parts to existing installations, not to provide ongoing technical support to maintaining those existing installations, not to provide a transition plan for these installations to convert to different control technology, etc. In short, A COMPLETE AND INSTANT ABANDONMENT OF THE U.S. INSTALLED BASE!

I represent and maintain one of probably hundreds of U.S. installations of Clipsal. I have recently talked with several others who are responsible of maintaining existing U.S. installations, and NO one has any good plan for how to go forward with these existing installations. Where do we get replacement parts, where do we get in-depth technical support, how do we maintain these system going forward? None of these questions are addressed by Schneider.

Schneider is not a reputable company for totally abandoning the U.S. installed base like this. In the long term, they will pay the price in the marketplace.

But my question simply this, is does ?Clipsal Australia,? the real ?home? of these product care about the future sales in the U.S.? What does the Clipsal management ?in Australia? want to do in the U.S. in the long term? The U.S. market is a large one, but you are now severely mistreating it (with what Schneider is dong) and this will come back to affect the production and sales in the Australian factories if you totally abandon this U.S. business base. Do you care? Does the U.S. market matter to you?

I understand that Schneider is to sell Clipsal product line and get out of this business altogether. I hope this is true and that is completed quickly. Will the buyer want a market presence in the U.S.? If so, they better take INSTANT steps to now salvage the many installations here. Schneider is destroying the Clipsal reputation in the U.S. I have always been told that it is ten times as hard and costly to get a new customer as it is to sell to an existing customer. Does Clipsal understand this simple concept, and do they wish to expand this U.S. business at any point in the future?

My ?bottom line? on this new thread is the following three items. One, if anyone from the U.S. wants to add their support for this cause of how to get better support for these existing U.S. installations, please chime in and add your comments here. Second, I?d like to get a detailed plan from ?Clipsal in Australia? for how to ?go forward? with existing U.S. installations (parts supply for the long term, technical support, conversion support for changing to a new equipment vendor, etc.). And third, I?d like to see a statement from ?Clipsal in Australia? about whether they plan any future sales and support in the U.S. If you are completely ?writing off? the U.S. installed base, JUST TELL US TO OUR FACES NOW AND WE WILL GO ELSEWHERE WITH OUR BUSINESS!

Now, let?s see where this thread goes!

Hmm, the silence here reminds me of the Great Minder controversy of 2004

As much as I hate to say it, nothing about C-Bus is better under Schneider, and I know the C-Bus team are doing the best they can.

BTW If you really have been muted by management, just blink 3 times :D

    Score: Clipsal 100 -- Schneider 0

Thanks for your response. From what I have gathered from many that I have corresponded with around the U.S. in recent months, there seems to be universal agreement -- Clipsal is a great product, and Schneider has done its best to ruin it. Schneider seems like one of those LARGE corporations that has lost sight of the customers it serves and how to make a long term success of the companies it buys. At least, this is the case here, I am convinced. I believe it is run by "accountants" not "strategists." They are "milking" Clipsal instead of "growing" it.

At this point I believe Schneider has absolutely NO plan for the U.S. and no plan to expand and grow the Clipsal product line anywhere. That is unfortunate and near sighted. It is a great technology and product, and it needs to be invested in to grow. The U.S. is a HUGE market potential.

My only hope is that Clipsal is sold soon, or taken private, and that the new owners pay attention to the largest lighting market in the world -- the U. S. This is a perfect situation for an investment banker to buy Clipsal and take it private to grow and prosper. I'm sure there are a great many ex-Clipsal folks in Australia that would love to see that happen -- hopefully that will happen soon and the "Old Clipsal" will shine again! Then Schneider can go somewhere else and ruin another company it purchases.

I'm just hoping my install doesnt go south before I can find a pathway out of this mess. I absolutely love my clipsal setup, but am freaked out I wont be able to get hardware if I had something die. Ugh... who is aware of another solution that has a similar wiring topology?

    Phillips Dynalite.

    http://www.lighting.philips.com/main/products/lighting-controls/dynalite.html

In several ways dynalite has features Cbus only wishes. Modular din mount units with replaceable output cards (trailing edge, leading edge, SPST relay, SPDT relay, and a few other things)

The wiring is topology is identical and the network should run OK on clipsals pink cat5e

I agree! unfortunately i think C-Bus represents only a tiny fraction of their global electrical portfolio. Not sure about the future of C-Bus either as it appears to conflict with other products.

We've shifted from C-Bus to Dynalite! its now a far more advanced system than C-Bus and only support C-bus for existing clients.

Its the story of two Australian lighting controls; C-Bus bought out by Schneider and Dynalite by Philips. Schneider seem to have invested very little in the product while Philips on the other hand must have spent millions.

Dynalite now far the better product, integrated support of every conceivable lighting technology, including PWM for direct LED Drive, DMX units with full 512 channels (not just 12 as per c-bus 5500DMX) a logic controller built into every device (no need of a PACA)! and just oodles of other units to suite every application. Their user interfaces are better too, look at Antumbra range particularly the display version (dynalite version of EDLT) it has an inbuilt temperature sensor. The programming and management software (Envision Project and Envision Manager) are really powerful but a sinch to use with drag n drop programming, DALI configuration tools built in too.

P.s. wouldn't advise trying to run Dynalite over cat5 though, Dynalite uses RS485 recommended cable is Belden 9503 or equiv the cable is screened and contains a drain wire that connects to all Dynalite units. (you probably get away with Lutron plenum cable though).

I have used and programmed quite a lot of dynalite, it is quite good. Envision Project is quite nice to use. Only thing is here in Perth the backup and support is woeful.
