    Hello!

The Clipsal MRA system is demanded in c-bus installation. I consider following components: Audio Matrix Switcher 560884/2 (standard), several Audio Amplifiers 560125R/2 (each with external power supply) and loudspeakers. Here are the questions.

    1. Sound quality issue. I'm personally not an expert in Hi-Fi and Hi-End sound equipment, but is there significant difference between 5600K01 (1-way) and 5600K02 (2-way) speakers?
    2. There are 5600K01 (8 ohm) and 5600K02 (6 ohm) loudspeakers. Two separate zones should be sounded by single amp and controlled by single DLT. If 5600K02 speakers will be connected in parallel, the total output resistance will be 3 ohm, which is too small for the amp. May I connect these K02 speakers in series? Will the amp work fine with the 12 ohm load?
    3. If 5600K02 speakers will be connected in parallel with K01 speakers, the total output resistance will be approx. 3.43 ohm. Is this also small for the amp? Should I do that?

    Best wishes.

    1. I haven't use any of the Clipsal speakers 5600K01 or 5600K02 so i can't comment on that.

    2. You will need to use 2 different amps to have 2 seperate zones, 1 amp wont do that. You can use 1 DLT with the switches program for each amp, but not 1 amp.

    3. I don't think its a good idea to parallel 2 speakers in each channel of the new model amps. The old one's were ok to do that, but not the new.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers
    Daniel

Thanks for the answer. Datasheet for 5600K01 speaker contains shematics how to connect speaker and amp. And there are lot of samples with parallel, serial and combined wiring. Separate amp is unconvenient, the number of power supplies and wiring increases. The wish is to get rid of it all.
A little explanation. Two separate zones means one so called "main" zone with the amp, DLT, speakers and one so called "extra" zone with the speakers only. Extra zone is simply a separate adjacent room. The question is which speakers to choose and how to properly connect chosen speakers with the amp. So looking for further comments.

    Better speakers

    Hi, answers to some questions:
    1) there will be a difference. weather that is acceptable to your client depends on their audio discerning/ ability and to some extent the type of music they listen too.
A 1 way speaker uses 1 speaker cone to reproduce all the sound from the low bass, the midrange and the high treble i.e. all the frequencies in the sound. That means this speaker will struggle to reproduce the full bandwidth of the music compared to it's original form.
A 2 way unit splits the bandwidths into high and low and has 2 speaker cones, one bigger speaker one to handle the low frequency sounds and a much smaller one to handle the high frequencies. This will be better as it shares the load between two speakers, that are tuned to reproduce each frequency group.
A 3 way unit would be even better. It splits the frequencies into three groups, low , mid and high and has three speaker cones, one to reproduce each of these bandwidths. Most if not all of your typical HIFI speaker units are 3 way speakers.
So to summarise the 2way 5600K02 will be better.
The sound quality of the MRA system is very good, but it will only be as good as the speaker you use. I recommend the Krix ones in the clipsal range.

    2) you should not parallel or series connect the speakers unless the instructions tell you you can. The amps and speakers Must be suitably matched or one will eventually fail early. So if you do use multiple you should use the same types (all 6ohm or all 8ohm) otherwise the load on one will be greater then the other and I'm pretty sure that one will end up louder than the other.

As an extra bit on reducing the equipment required, you can run more than one remote or desktop amp off one power supply. Plug the amp into one of them and the other will get the power through the digital (green) cable.
