    Hi guys
I have tried to connect to my CBus2 network interface ethernet port to the ethernet port on my laptop with no success. The Network interface has 2 x orange lights on when Im plugged in. I have tried all 3 options on the "Find Cbus networks" page but shouldnt it connect with the Scan cbus network interfaces option? I also tried to set the default interface to the IP address of my laptop with no success. Very green at this so appreciate any suggestions at all.

Maybe the ethernet cable needs to be a crossover cable?

    There is a 5500CN and 5500CN2.
I asked to try point you to the correct instructions.
    Is it new?
Download the installation instructions and have a read.

See if you can follow that first.

    Otherwise
Toolkit creates an xml file when you create a project.
    It is located in C:\Clipsal\C-Gate2\tag
If you open and read the xml file (careful not to alter in any way) that will show the IP address of the CNI when the xml was created.
Maybe you have those old disks or a backup of your project somewhere?

If you are connecting the laptop Ethernet directly to the CBus Ethernet interface you will need two things. A crossover Ethernet cable and a fixed IP address on your laptop as you won’t have a DHCP server.

I would suggest resetting the CNI to default settings and from the manual see if it gets assigned a default IP address or if it needs a DHCP server to get an IP address (I cant remember which one it is). I would probably start do on a LAN with a DHCP server so you can make sure you can “see” and config the IP on the CNI without requiring a crossover cable and your Router can “tell” you what the CNI IP address is. You can also ARP it from its MAC address if you ate on the same subnet.

Then when you travel around, just have the fixed IP on both your laptop and CNI with your Ethernet cross over cable and you can plug them into any CBus network. Oh and write or label the IP info onto the CNI for future reference.

I also remember reading somewhere that the new CNI software doesn’t work with the 5500CN. I think you may need an older version. Someone else may be able to confirm this for you.

    Cheers

    Jason

Here you go. From the Clipsal website:

Can I use the latest Control System IP Utility V1.5.0.3 programming the old CNI (5500CN)?
    Published date: 25 January 2018

No, Control System IP Utility V1.5.0.3 doesn't support the old CNI (5500CN), it can only be used programming the CN2 (5500CN2).
Program the old CNI (5500CN) requires the old Control System IP Utility V1.3 :

    http://www2.clipsal.com/cis/technical/downloads/general_utilities#CBusIPUtility

    or Lantronix DeviceInstaller V4.4.0.2:

    http://ts.lantronix.com/ftp/DeviceI....0.2.exe?_ga=1.97098591.1597216443.1474260280

Yeah I have Control system IP utility version 1.6.016 so it probably explains why i cant even see the device on the network. Im not sure where to get the older version as none of the links above seem to work any more and i cant find it in a search.....any ideas?

Go to the link below and click on the C-Bus IP Utility link and then scroll down and click on the “show old versions” of the IP Configuration utility software:

    https://www.clipsal.com/learn-and-discover/trade-talk/trade-software-tools/c-bus-software

Unfortunately there are so many broken links to C-bus both on the Clipsal website and this forum. I posted to the site Admin for these forums a while back to request that someone bring up an alias to redirect the old www2... Clipsal links to the new site...no response...apologies for sending the broken link in the last post.

Hope this is what you need...

    cheers

    Jason
