This may perhaps be a very stupid question, as i'm sure it would have been mentioned in training otherwise, but I will ask anyway...

Is there a way to simulate a project without connecting to the network, ie: from the database?

As it seems very cumbersome to have to get the gear, or go to a clients house just to test programming changes.

    Basically, is there a "Virtual C-Bus" ?

    No.

Such would require a virtual simulation of every firmware release of every unit (so far thats over 500 combinations), so whilst its feasible, its not practical.

Almost any DALI software has a nice function. You can press on a switch button, which you programm and see what happens (Groups on dimmers are being ramped, as sliders). Pretty simple and nice.

Would be good to see in Toolkit.

We used to try things out in PICED where you can write some output level icons/siders and create some special Keys/Functions to see if they are working or not. There is a lot more complicated functions in C-Bus than Dali and there is much more information such as logging in Toolkits nowadays.

I agree, C-Bus is more complicated. But still think, that applet, which would show items in database and groups, which are programmed on those items - is not more than a week to develop. As PICED extention, for example.

If you think you could do this in a week, you should apply for a job in our software team ;-)

It would actually be an enormous job, as Ashleigh said. There would be very little point in doing a simulator which only does half the job. To do it properly would be several man-years worth of work. While it would be nice to have, there are much higher priorities.
