I submitted the material below 2 weeks ago and as yet have not received any comments. Would appreciate any advice.

Is there any problems running a C-Bus system off an alternator?

The alternator is a 7 kva unit powered by a 4 stroke engine. It has a noticeable dip in line voltage when starting heavy loads (eg starting a fridge).

The C-Bus system contains both relay and dimmer units.

My main concern is causing any damage to the C-Bus system but am wondering if there are any other issues.

I thought that there was a reply.

The one I remember reading mentioned using a UPS with a pure sine wave output to help smooth out the irregularities of the generator. You only want to power the C-bus units and not the light circuits obviously.

Some of the better UPS' actually have a generator setting to allow it to handle the dirty power coming in (and re-adjust phase angles or something like that, just in case they are slightly out - too long ago I don't remember the details)
