Im interested in the best way to use a spectrum colour touch screen with logic to control an alarm system.

they want to use the touch screen to turn it on and off.

its been wired with a 4 channel coupler (5104bcl)

has any one done this before, is there an easy way to do it?

C-Bus is interfaced to various alarm systems quite regularly.

I take it you mean that they want to use the Touchscreen to arm and disarm the alarm system?

Several alarm systems are available with C-Bus interfaces this makes configuring the behaviour fairly easy, as all the Touchscreen has to do is send commands on the Security Application to the security panel. I take it that this alarm system does not have a built-in C-Bus interface?

The bus coupler will allow the state of the alarm system to be seen on C-Bus. What it will not do is allow messages to be sent back to the alarm system.

Until you explain how C-Bus is connected to the alarm panel in such a manner that C-Bus can tell the alarm to arm or disarm itself, we're not going to be able to provide much more help.

the alarm doesnt have a direct connection to cbus, i can make it turn on and off via a button.

but im trying to make a secure way of doing it so not just any one can turn it on and off.

is there some logic code or a built in app to piced that will let me do it?

You need to explain how C-Bus is connected to the Alarm panel before a solution can be given.

If there is currently not a connection between the two, you need to list the different interfaces provided by the alarm panel.

4 channel coupler (5104bcl) is what the alarm is connected to.

if the channel is open, alarm is off, if channel is closed the alarm is on.

every thing is being controlled by a spectrum c touch (with logic)

im looking for a secure way to do it via the touch screen.

The Bus Coupler will only allow you to communicate 1-way, i.e. from the Alarm system to C-Bus. It will not allow you to send any kind of information back the other way to the alarm system.

The first step is to identify all the methods available to you on the alarm system that enable it to be armed and disarmed remotely. Once you've sorted that, you can decide which of those methods to interface to C-Bus.

To be able to arm or disarm the system from C-Bus (Spectrum touchscreen or otherwise) you will need to have an interface that allows you to send information from C-Bus to the alarm system. This could be in the form of a low-voltage dry-contact input to the alarm system, a C-Bus interface card for the alarm system (if available), a serial connection between the Spectrum and the alarm panel with some logic code... it all depends what methods you have at your disposal of sending some sort of arm/disarm message into the security panel. You cannot do this with just a bus coupler.
