Has anyone had any success with using a non-Clipsal (proprietry) barcode scanner with toolkit 1.9.3??

The other scanners available on the market from HT and the like are considerably cheaper so I want to explore this possibility first.

I even considered using one of these USB scanners and saving the barcode into a spreadsheet then pasting the code into toolkit on each device.

    Thanks guys.

I have used a Gryphon hand-held USB barcode scanner with Toolkit, and there have been no issues.

The bar codes used are bog-standard. You can be assured that the scanner sold by Clipsal will work as it is the one we test with. However, almost any scanning device should work though there are always exceptions. For example, my camera phone's barcode scanning application isn't able to pick up the longer "software config code" barcode.
