    Hey guys,
We were just wondering what type of barcode reader will be compatable with Toolkit? Will it be a special Clipsal product or will any old generic reader work?
    Cheers

We've tried to incorporate most readers on the market, but obviously not every single make/model has been tested. Your best bet is to just try the one you have with the Beta, and report any issues to us. :)

We havn't got one yet - we were just checking. From my past experiences with barcode readers they operate by spitting out the numeric value of the barcode into whatever field that you have highlighted when you perform a scan. Is this the way Toolkit would interpret a generic type reader?

Not quite.. we actually look at the speed of the characters coming in from the Keyboard to determine if the user is typing numbers of scanning a barcode.. We sometimes dont have a field highlighted but still need to accept a scanned barcode as input.

So as long as your barcode reader is acting as a "keyboard wedge", you should be fine. Your reader should also not append or prefix the barcode with any of its own special characters.
