How sensitive is this unit with regards to Pets?

I would hate to install it and later find out that the cat turns on the stair lights every time it goes up or down the stairs at night time :D

You may have to consider using the Cat as a door mat :D

I've found that with the PEIRL that's in our utility room, I have been able to tune it so that our old (and therefore slow) cat don't set it off (most of the time).

    Thanks benfjo

So it is not really pet safe but can be adjusted.

    Hi Marty,
You can play around with the debounce and reduce the sensitivity. They are not pet safe, CIS don't claim they are but you can, sort of get it to work as JB, said most of the time.

I guess its better to know that they aren't pet safe before you install and then have a play with the sensitivty, rather than believing you can get the outcome you are after. If all goes to mud consider the door mat option. :)

On the 5753L's you could reduce their sensitivity by playing around with the debounce time but it's a bit of a work-around.

The 5753PEIRL has a dedicated feature for this. It allows you to assign the PIR sensitivity to one of the POTs on the unit and then adjust it from there. By default the PIR sensitivity is assigned to POT B and fully-clockwise (default) is maximum sensitivity.

    P.S. Awesome cat-mat John!

Exactly what I did, play around with the pots on the unit until it's to your liking. It took us a couple of weeks thou.

The other solution is to view your cat as a sophisticated real time occupancy simulation device. No programming involved, just move her/his/its food around the house to keep it on the move :)
