We have been asked if the Cbus Telephone Interface (5100T series) supports the distinctive ring tones of Telstra FaxStream Duet.

This is a service that allocates 2 phone numbers to your line. When the second phone number is dialled the exchange generates a special ring pattern.

If devices attached to your line can distinguish between the 2 ring patterns (for voice or fax), then you fax machine can answer the fax number calls only.

The standard Australian pattern is 0.4s on, 0.2s off, 0.4s on, 2s off.

The FaxStream Duet / Multiple Subscriber Number ring pattern is 0.2s on, 0.2s off, 0.4s on, 2.2s off.

    --------------

The short answer is NO, the distinctive ring separation / selective answering is not supported.

The following product may be helpful in some circumstances:

*NOTE* that Clipsal have NOT tested this product for operation and suitability and do not endorse it. We would be interested to hear from anybody who uses it though.
