I have 2 C-Bus SIMM modules that I'm using in a product and they both report differently in Toolkit.

One comes up as INT_CIS - Default SIM and the other as INT_HUIO - Hotel UIO

Both report the firmware version as 5.4.00

Does anybody know why, and what is the difference?

Both seem to work fine in my application, but I want to know which one is correct, and how I got the other. I'm concerned about different firmware functionality that might catch me down the track.

    Regards

    Rohan

edit: I just found the packaging for the second SIM and it is 5000SM/2-HUIO which appears to line up with what Toolkit thinks. So is this a special SIM and sold to me by mistake?

The SIMs are customised for their end-application when used in certain products.

    OK, thats a bit waffly.

What is supposed to happen is that organisations making products that include a SIM (in volume, not small 1-offs) register with Clipsal, who allocate a unit type for that maker and their product. This then allows a more sensible identification of what the products are when they are discovered on a bus.

So, for example, INT_HUIO was registered by the makers of the Hotel UIO system, and when they order their SIMs they order a special, non-published, catalogue number so that they receive the customised SIMs just for them.

It looks like if you ordered SIMs and got one with this specialised programming, there has been what is known in the trade as "a stuff up".

Hey Ashleigh, i'm familiar with "stuff ups" its usually me on the oops end.

So what should I do now? Return it I guess, as it could have custom firmware in it.

I will need lots (at least 100) of these for my first production run, and hopefully many more after that, but I have to buy them in small quantities because the initial outlay would be too great in one hit.

Given this should I be speaking the the Enabled Coordinator and getting my own part number? I don't really want one, but if that is the done thing. I am a member of the C-Bus enabled program and I used to deal with Steve Dunn a fair bit, but nobody I used to know seems to be there anymore

    Cheers

You could probably just use it. The firmware is the same, only the unit type has been changed.

As for ordering your own - yes - talk to the Enabled Coordinator and see about getting your own part number allocated.

    Ok, it does work.

Charlie Crackle has contacted Don, so we'll see what he says.

    Cheers
