Greetings, it would be great to hear from all and sundry as to the issues faced in installing telephone systems. Are there particular systems that suit residential applications?
Is ther any risk buying phone systems from auction? Any thoughts welcome,

Hi,
What sort of issues are you facing? IMHO I think the Panasonic TA308 makes a pretty good phone system for home usage and is what I have at home.
It's got a lot of features including door openers, calling line ID, fax detection, least cost routing ability and a room monitor function which is handy for keeping an ear on the baby.
Basic config is 3 analogue trunks and 8 feature phones. This can be expanded by adding cards to add anothe 3 trunks and 8 feature phones or just 8 analogue extensions. Max capacity is 6 analogue trunks, 16 feature phones an 8 analogue phones.
Given the current cost of PSTN lines versus a Telstra ISDN Home service a bette option deending on how many extensions are required is the TD612 which can take Basic Rate ISDN but is limited to 12 featurephones and 1 analogue.
Most of the commonly available key systems such as the NEC Xen wouldbe equally suitable.
If money is no object, what about a Cisco Call Manager Express - IP Telephony all built into a 2600 series router. Even voice mail is a module that slots into the higher end 2600's. The cost of phones is a killer though.
Regarding, buying at auction it's probably no more dangerous buying a phone system than any other electronic item. Phone systems are pretty robust.
Hope that helps.
Regards.
