Infrared or Ultrasonic?

Can someone explain the pro's and con's of infrared vs ultrasonic? (apart from cost...)

Does anyone have any recommended ultrasonic sensors? or is there a C-Bus one available?

Basically, use infra-red if you have line-of-sight as it is less prone to adjacent channel problems. Use RF if you need to go round corners or need longer distance.
This applies to all home entertainment systems as well as c-bus stuff.

The ultrasonic transducers can be anything from a five-cent to a ten-cent sized piece in diameter. This makes for a very bulky remote control.
Ultrasonic normally works at about 40KHz (For remote control) and it becomes difficult to modulate at high data rates.
The energy required to drive the transducer is also higher than IR.

IR overcomes all those issues.
I do not know of any manufacturer who now retails an ultrasonic remote with their equipment. Probably for all the reasons mentioned.
