If you are talking about the upcoming C-Bus Multi-room audio then you can use a "Desktop" amplifier in each room via it's local source input. When you want to hear the Media Center audio select local source input (via the desktop amp faceplate, IR Remote, or any C-bus key switch) and the Media Center audio will be played to the amps speakers. The removes the need to have 2 device, only the "Desktop" amplifier is required.

Note: The "Remote" amplifier does not have local source inputs, so you have to use the "Desktop" model.

If I understand you and the brochure correctly it would not be neccesary for a audio distribution or matrix switcher seeing that the desktop Amplifier has Line level inputs. :) How many of these desktop amplifiers can i have and still be able to controll it from the Bus?

If the only source is the Media Center via the local input on each amp then you are correct that you don't need a Matrix Switcher. Desktop amplifiers are capable of running as a stand alone unit so that should work fine. Each amp can be customised to have it's own setting of C-Bus groups to controls it levels (Vol, bal, treb etc..) so you should have no problems there.

The only thing I'm not sure of is that they may still need to be set to use unique Audio Zones so as to not interfere with each other. However, it is possible to have 24 zones on onw pysical C-Bus network so that means you should be able to have at least 24 amps happily coexisting without issue.

24 amps would be nice. Are you sure this can be done. As per Cis cabling guide in the trade catalogue it states a maximum of 8 zones and 50mtrs of cat5 to each zone with a maximum number of 4 source inputs. Which is true?

There is a maximum of 24 Zones per network (8 Zones per Matrix Switcher and a maximum of 3 Matrix Switchers per network) .

This limit applies even if you use no Matrix Switchers as the amps will need to be configured to Zones for control purposes.
